SUPIMA DESIGN COMPETITION
The challenge for these eight top design graduates was to use the Supima luxury cotton materials including corduroy, denim, shirting, twill, and jersey. These rising stars were asked to rethink evening wear with these unconventional fabrics.
Kate Wilkoff from the Pratt Institute was chosen as the winner of the $10,000 cash prize Buxton Midyette of Supima, Cindy Weber-Clearly of InStyle, Aslaug Magnusdottir of Moda Operandi, Alexandra Wilkis Wilson of Gilt Groupe, and Tadashi Shoji. Wilkoff was able to really prove the versatility of Supima cotton with her hand-dyed and painted treatments to the deconstructed jersey. The structure of every piece in her capsule collection was very artistic and dynamic including the layers, open backs, strong shoulders, and fringe.
