CHADWICK BELL SPRING/SUMMER 2013
As my first show at Fashion Week, Chadwick Bell certainly set the standards high. His perpetual sense of duality was presented through the concept of “Nirvana,” the enlightenment his ideal woman wishes to achieve. The contrast of the black and white identified with the journey from darkness to light while the collections structure demonstrated his European tailoring and American ease. The archetypal search for ones self was also highlighted in the stripping of excess adornments and accessories with only a simple bold paillette necklace, blusher visors, or a leather belt with a bold hip piece.Bell used colorful guipure lace to contrast the leather work with an especially beautiful genius by not backing the lace skirts allowing for a new twist on the trend of see through lace. The layering and use of many different length pieces break up the body very subtly with an easy transition from head to toe allowing one to invision the levels or steps to reach sainthood. The draping work in the viscose jersey dresses also have an ethereal mood demonstrating Bell’s theme of “Nirvana.”
